The causes of a sticky stool can include the use of coffee. Eating certain foods and drinking some types of beverages can cause sticky or tarry stools. Sticky stools can also come from the blood that escapes the body from bleeding ulcers in the stomach or esophagus. Sticky stools might also be caused by certain types of cancer, bowel disease like inflammatory bowel disorder, anemia, and the use of certain vitamins like iron. Sticky stools are often relieved when fiber is added to a person’s diet.
