Lymphocyte is the medical term for the white blood cells in the human body. These cells are used to help keep the body free of infection. There are many things that can cause a low lymphocyte count. One of the most common is a decrease in bone marrow production. The bone marrow is where lymphocytes are formed. Another common reason for a low lymphocyte count might be repeated use of steroids.
